Dogging - DG

Course Description

 Gain the skills, knowledge, and nationally recognised qualification to safely and effectively perform dogging operations with M. P Labour and Training’s High Risk Work Licence Course.

This course is designed in accordance with Victorian and Australian regulatory standards and provides a combination of hands-on practical training and theoretical instruction in a professional, supportive learning environment. Participants will learn how to safely sling loads, direct crane movements, and communicate effectively with crane operators to ensure safe and efficient lifting operations.

Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible to apply for a National High Risk Work Licence (DG class) through WorkSafe Victoria.

Who Should Enroll

 This course is ideal for:

  • Individuals seeking employment in the construction, mining, or industrial sectors where lifting operations are performed.
  • Workers who are required to sling loads, select lifting gear, and direct crane movements as part of their job.
  • Employers who need their staff trained and licensed in accordance with WorkSafe Victoria’s High Risk Work Licence (DG class) requirements.

Course Content

 Participants will learn to:

  • Plan and prepare for dogging operations in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements.
  • Select and inspect lifting equipment to ensure it is suitable and safe for the task.
  • Sling loads safely, using the correct techniques and equipment for different load types.
  • Direct crane operators to move loads safely using approved hand and whistle signals.
  • Calculate load weights and determine the centre of gravity for safe lifting and movement.
  • Identify and control hazards associated with lifting and dogging activities.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant legislation, standards, and workplace safety procedures.

Course Duration & Location

 The duration of this course is 5 days. Study may also include pre-course learning activities. This course typically requires approximately 60 hours of training

Language & other student requirements

 

To participate in the this course with M. P Labour and Training, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Age Requirement: Students must be at least 18 years of age to obtain a High Risk Work Licence.
  • Language and Literacy: All assessment activities must be completed in English, as required by WorkSafe Victoria. Interpreters are not permitted, except in the case of hearing-impaired students, who may use sign language interpreters only with prior approval from the Regulator.
  • Students must have a reasonable command of English and possess basic numeracy skills to complete the government-mandated assessment for this qualification. Only minor adjustments for personal or workplace reasons are permitted.
  • Physical Requirements: The course involves manual handling, climbing, lifting, carrying, and working at height. Some medical conditions or physical limitations may affect a student’s ability to participate safely. Students with such concerns should contact M. P Labour and Training prior to enrolment to discuss potential alternatives.

Course Outcome

 Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and an Assessment Summary to support their application for a WorkSafe Victoria High Risk Work Licence (DG class).

This nationally recognised qualification demonstrates that the participant has met the required standards to safely and competently perform dogging operations in accordance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and WorkSafe Victoria requirements.

  • RIIBEF201E Plan and organise work
  • TLID3031 Rig load
  • CPCCDO2011 Handle and use dogging tools and equipment
  • CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging
  • RIICCM201E Carry out measurements and calculations
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • TLIE0002 Process workplace documentation
